COMMITMENT: Time requirements are flexible. Volunteers are assigned projects based on the amount of time that they are available. ELIGIBILITY: Both SoCalAMA members and non-members can volunteer. However, only professional members are eligible to serve on the board, which consists of the positions of President, President-elect, and Vice Presidents overseeing the specific committees outlined below. OPPORTUNITIES: There are a wide variety of areas that can benefit from the unique marketing talents of each volunteer. Listed below are committee descriptions and responsibilities for each committee member.
Creative Talent Committee - Work with VP of Creative Talent
- Communicate with new and existing members to encourage them to get involved with the Chapter on many levels
- Recruit volunteers to help the Chapter accomplish its goals and facilitate their interest in volunteering
- Meet with volunteers and make recommendation to specific Committees and Board posts
- Coordinate and track each volunteer’s assignments/activities to ensure their expectations and goals are met
- Ensure consistent communication between volunteers and the VPs
Expectations: committee member should be proactive, personable, and strategic in aligning volunteers with opportunities Programming Committee - Work with VP of Programming
- Develop monthly programs and special events to meet members’ needs
- Maintain and update annual programming calendar
- Oversee hospitality and reservation procedures for each event
- Work with Communications Committee to ensure program promotion is done in a timely manner
- May be assigned to work with VP of Professional Development to develop special programs with in-depth training to help members become well rounded in their marketing careers
Expectation: committee member should be confident with recruiting speakers, coordinating programs, working with Executive Director to secure meeting location, and ensuring all A/V needs are met. Membership Committee - Work with VP of Membership
- Recruit and welcome new members to the Chapter
- Speak with incoming members about volunteering opportunities the Chapter has to offer
- Ensure new and renewing members are aware of all the benefits through frequent communication
- Work closely with Programming and Professional Development Committee to ensure members are receiving value for their membership
- Set and meet annual membership goals of the Chapter
Expectations: committee member is expected to frequently contact potential, new, and existing members via phone calls and e-mails. Communications Committee - Work with VP of Communications
- Create media alerts and announcements to promote up-coming events
- Develop communication materials to support all Committees for meeting their annual goals
- Identify media opportunities with current Chapter activities and establish long-term relationship
- Generate and edit content to be posted on the website
- Design, edit, and manage future monthly publications such as newsletter
Expectations: committee member should be competent in pitching media, familiar with AP (Associated Press) writing style, excellent with transforming vision into message, comfortable with copy editing, able to leverage some graphic design resources to develop communication vehicles Sponsorship Committee - Work with VP of Sponsorship
- Develop and update sponsorship packages for the Chapter on annual and/or event-specific basis
- Develop and maintain corporate sponsorship contact list
- Keep accurate records of all donations, underwriting, and in-kind support.
- Monitor sponsor support to avoid conflicts of interest with Chapter operating policies and assure all Chapter obligations to sponsors are met
- Establish and maintain long-term relationship with the sponsors
Expectations: committee member should be comfortable with securing funds from companies on an annual or event basis, and proposing sponsorship activities to reach our members Online Marketing Committee - Work with VP of Online Marketing
- Enhance and maintain the Chapter website
- Facilitate and update monthly new contents and resources
- Monitor and provide monthly web traffic report
- Upload event summary reports and pictures to the website
- Organize presentation materials from the past events
Expectation: committee member should have some knowledge in e-marketing, experience with website applications and management Finance Committee - Work with VP of Finance/Treasurer and Bookkeeper
- Understand financial policies of the Chapter and general policies regarding non-profit organizations
- Provide monthly summary reports of income/expense
- Track monthly budget and control cost
- Help find ways to strengthen the financial standing of the Chapter
- Prepare final year-end reports of the year’s activities, including the final expense/income statement and recommendations for the following year
Expectations: committee member should have some business financial background and be familiar with some financial software and Excel. Academic Relations Committee - Work with VP of Academic Relations
- Establish consistent communications with local AMA student chapter and other marketing student group leaders for increasing their awareness of the Chapter
- Cultivate involvement between marketing students and marketing professionals, and help nurture talent into the marketing profession
- Coordinate activities with student groups from local universities to meet their needs: mentoring programs, guest speaker events, etc.
- Work with local universities to recruit graduating seniors and MBA students into the professional Chapter
- Recruit and encourage student members to gain addition professional experience by volunteering for the Chapter
Expectation: committee member should be in contact with student marketing groups on a regular basis
